BookTranslate.AI was created by me, Balint Taborski, a Hungarian independent author, translator, software developer, and founder of Praxeum Publishing - a one-man publishing initiative dedicated to introducing classical liberal and Austrian economic thought in Hungary.
Over the past decade, I’ve translated and published more than 30 books, including forgotten works by Hungarian libertarians whose writings were nearly erased by the 20th century’s totalitarian regimes. One of the best examples is The Tariff Superstition by Marcel Kadosa - a sharp, anti-protectionist critique originally written in the 1920s. I translated the entire book to English using an early version of this software. Aside from a final manual proofread and a few small word tweaks, the translation was entirely AI-generated - and the results were astounding. The Mises Institute even published a review praising the book’s historical significance and clarity.
BookTranslate.ai started as a tool to help me scale my mission with Praxeum. High-quality book translation is time-consuming and expensive, and the output from existing automatized tools often required just as much manual fixing as translating from scratch. I needed something better - something I could trust with serious texts that preserved tone, nuance, and glossary precision.
What began as a scrappy internal tool became a real solution. This software produces a translation that’s 98% publication-ready - requiring only a light final proofread and a few tiny edits (and frankly, based on seeing the results of dozens of translations using this software, even that is not strictly necessary). It cut my translation time from weeks of typing to a single afternoon of reading and fixing a few small imperfections. Now, it’s here for other indie authors, translators, and publishers who need the same edge.
The Birth of BookTranslate.ai
As I kept refining the script, it slowly grew into something much more than a simple automation tool. I built a full multi-pass AI translation system around it, leveraging advanced large language models like Claude 3.7 Sonnet. The goal wasn't just to generate a quick translation - it was to get something I could actually publish with minimal post-processing, but with the same level of quality as if I myself had translated it.
The process involves:
- Initial Translation: Captures the original meaning, structure, and voice.
- Iterative Proofreading: Each additional pass refines grammar, fluency, rhythm, and idiomatic tone.
- Glossary Enforcement: Ensures key terms are translated with absolute consistency - a must for technical or philosophical works.
The workflow mirrors what a human translator might do - but at a fraction of the time and cost. In fact, sometimes it produced even better quality than what I would have been able to achieve, even though I have years of experience and dozens of books under my belt. I built it to serve my own publishing goals, but once I saw how well it worked, I knew I had to make it available to others too.
