Talk to Your Book: BookTranslate.ai Is Now in ChatGPT

BookTranslate.ai is now available as a ChatGPT plugin. Connect your account and you can discuss your books and translations in the same chat interface you already use.

Ask why a passage reads differently in translation. Compare how a character speaks across several scenes. Examine a Naturalizer suggestion against the original before accepting it. Then, when you're satisfied with a specific edit, ask ChatGPT to save it back to your project.

The conversation can draw on your actual manuscript, translation passes, literary analysis, glossary, and editorial suggestions. You no longer have to copy passages between windows to give ChatGPT the material for a useful discussion.

An editorial conversation with the source in reach

A useful translation review starts with a specific question and the text needed to answer it.

Open my translation of [book title]. Read the opening in the original and the latest translation. Where has the narrator's voice changed? Quote the passages you're comparing.

From there, you can follow the question wherever it leads. Ask for the surrounding paragraphs. Compare an earlier translation pass. Read the book analysis to see how it describes the author's voice. Check whether a disputed term has an active glossary entry.

This is especially useful when an editorial decision needs more context than a single sentence: a recurring metaphor, a character's habitual phrasing, a technical term, or a joke whose wording matters later in the book.

ThreadWeaver's map of recurring elements is available in the conversation too. It helps locate the relevant occurrences so you can read them together and judge their treatment in translation.

Find the passages connected to this recurring image. Read their originals and translations, then show me any inconsistencies worth reviewing.

Use it before, during, and after translation

Before translation, you can discuss the generated book analysis and chapter guidance, inspect glossary suggestions, and manage active glossary terms when the project is ready. Suggested terms and the terms you've actually activated remain distinct.

While translation is running, you can check progress and read the original alongside the translation passes already available. ChatGPT can identify which pass you're reading, so a draft can be discussed on its own terms. The project stays read-only while processing continues.

After translation and automatic processing finish, you can review Naturalizer suggestions, accept or reject selected suggestions individually or in a batch, and save specific translation edits you approve. The original manuscript and earlier passes remain available for comparison.

    Review a proposal, then decide

The plugin gives you a way to move from discussion to a recorded editorial decision.

Show me five pending Naturalizer suggestions with their original passages, current translations, proposed changes, and explanations. Let's discuss them before applying anything.

You can also ask ChatGPT to propose its own corrections after reading the source. For a batch of edits, it can preview the proposed replacements before saving them. That preview checks whether each replacement matches the current text and shows the before and after.

Preview these agreed edits across the selected paragraphs. Show me the before and after for each one, and flag anything that cannot be applied.

Once you approve the changes, saved translation edits are recorded in your project's change history. You can inspect the previous and new wording, who made the change, and when it was saved. If the text has changed since a proposal was prepared, the save checks it again.

The optional AI Council review remains available on demand on the BookTranslate.ai website. Reading suggestions or previewing edits through the plugin does not start a Council review.

    How to connect

    1. Open the BookTranslate.ai plugin in ChatGPT, or search for BookTranslate.ai in ChatGPT's plugin directory.
    2. Choose Connect and sign into the BookTranslate.ai account that owns your books or has access to them.
    3. Review and approve the connection, then return to ChatGPT and select BookTranslate.ai for your conversation.
    4. Start with: “List my BookTranslate projects, then open [book title].”

If you haven't uploaded a book yet, create your project in BookTranslate.ai first. Uploading manuscripts, starting translation, and running the AI modules stay on the website.

    Your projects, your decisions

The connection uses your existing project permissions. It can access books you own or collaborate on; editing also requires the appropriate permissions and a project that is ready for review.

When ChatGPT retrieves passages or analysis, that material is shared with ChatGPT for the conversation. You can revoke the connection from Connected applications in BookTranslate.ai.

The Studio remains there for reading, editing, and exporting your book. The plugin adds another way to work with the same project: ask a question, examine the evidence, discuss a change, and decide what to save.
